on the punt … seattle seahawks

Seahawks are hosting the silly Rams tomorrow morning and are short, short favourites. Then again, I’ve put a bucketload on them to make it worthwhile.

I’ve also put un petit morceau on The Morcombes to win Australians of the Year, and Samantha Stosur to win the Australian Open, god help me. but hey, at $11, she’s worth a flutter.

on the punt

had a particularly good weekend betting on the NFL last weekend, so i’ve directed some funds that way again. it’s Thanksgiving over there, so there’s a game starting in a few minutes.

sadly, my beloved Green Bay Packers this week have the bye, so i have directed most of my attention at the Pittsburgh Steelers who are red-hot favourites against Kansas City. i’ve spread dollar bets around the rest of this weekend’s games.

a colleague who seems to spend most of his salary on the punt says there’s no point betting on favourites, because you never win much. this is quite possibly the stupidest thing i’ve ever heard. surely its better to win small, often, than to win big once in a blue moon and lose the rest of the time.

then again, if he was any good at it, he wouldn’t be a colleague, would he? he’d be a bookie.

people are weird.

Anyway, i’ve thrown a little on the Gold Coast Blaze who are in Adelaide this week trying to beat the 36ers.

In the A-League, it’s hard not to bet on the Brisbane Roar, even though the streak has to end some time.

And my stupid bet of the week is on Gold Coast United who are at $4.50 to beat the Melbourne Victory. Never going to happen, but it’s worth a $1.

Novak Djokovic will recover from his loss to David Ferrer in the ATP Tour finals and i’ve backed him to beat Tipsarevic at $1.33.

on the punt … presidents cup the market of the day

so i’m back on the punt. managed to run out of money last phase just before the melbourne cup, so that was really intelligent.

never mind. apart from a couple of long-term punts on the Green Bay Packers (my tip, natch) and the Second Test (i’ve gone with the Aussies), the Presidents Cup golf is catching my attention today.

rather than speculate wildly on the top scorers for the teams, which seems like even more of a mug’s game than usual, i’ve sprinkled some cash on today’s quartets.

i’ve gone for Adam Scott & KJ Choi over Tiger Woods & Steve Stricker (2.10), Aaron Baddeley & Jason Day over Dustin Johnson & Matt Kuchar (2.00) and Geoff Ogilvy & Charl Schwartzel over Bill Haas & Nick Watney (1.95).

we shall see.

UPDATED: Marginal success today … Adam Scott and his mate touched Tiger Woods up something rotten so that was a winner, but the other quartets went down the gurgler.

on the punt … last throw of the dice

one of these days i’m going to learn the lesson that putting money on Samantha Stosur to win a final is the equivalent of setting fire to a $10 note.

seriously, Sam — HARDEN THE FUCK UP. ugh.

so, i am down to my last buck. and it’s going on the Gold Coast Titans who are $2.45 outsiders against the Manly Sea Eagles tonight. god knows there’s no predicting them so i might as well have a last desperate throw of the dice. lose this one and i’m out of the game until June.

c’mon Titans.

on the punt … just not my weekend

UPDATE: Manly came through, thankfully … and now i have put $8 on Jarmila Gajdosova to beat Corinna Dentoni at $1.12 in the first round in Rome. not confident but it’s the only thing i can find remotely bettable overnight.

UPDATE: Just won 50 cents on a horse. woohoo!

UPDATE: clearly it is not my weekend on the punt. sigh. djokovic beat nadal IN STRAIGHT SETS, ffs. bloody Manly had better come good tonight for me, or i am out of the game until the end of the month. never trust a world no.1 is all i can say.

UPDATE: well. the Gold Coast Titans sucked big hairy donkey dicks today, so that’s another $5 down the pan, however the Dragons came through for me, so all good. my overnight punt is a big one — $30 on Rafa Nadal to beat Novak Djokovic in the Madrid final at $1.33. pray for me.

UPDATE: damn. lol. i must not punt on horses. i must not punt on horses. i must not punt on horses.

UPDATE: good old Rafa Nadal saved my hide overnight by beating the fast-fading Federer in the semi-final in Madrid. good. i’ve put $5 on Essendon to beat West Coast at $1.22, starting in about 10 minutes. and $5 on Magical Mel to run a place in New Zealand at $3.30. wish i’d been brave enough to put something on the Gold Coast Suns yesterday. tch.

UPDATE: bugger and double bugger. horse nowhere, broncos done in the last few minutes. ugh. i’ve gone balls out — $20 on Rafa Nadal to beat Federer in the ATP Madrid semi-final at $1.13.

UPDATE: hmmm .. Adoration must have been scratched cos i got all my money back. semi-result. having another crack on Fionns Dragon, jumping in 22 minutes.

thanks to the mighty Kangaroos, i am already up on the weekend’s punt, so all good.

four rugby league games on this weekend. i’ve got $5 each on Manly ($1.38), St George ($1.49), the mighty Titans ($1.56) and the Broncos, who for some reason are $2.50 outsiders. go figure.

i also have $5 each way on a little thing called Adoration which is going round in Honkers in … 25 minutes … it’s the favourite. we shall see.

on the punt … yes, it’s back

so, in an effort to distract myself from the Digestion System From Hell, i am back on the punt. because it’s fun, and i live large in the dream that The Big Win Is Coming.

i’ve had a good week, puntifically speaking. i’m about $60 up on $50 investment.

partly that’s cos i managed to pick 10 out 10 NRL winners last weekend — and 2 from 2 so far this weekend.

but i also did something silly.

yes, i have been putting money on Samantha Stosur … her of the million-dollar arm, and the five-cent head.

so far, it’s paid off, despite her best efforts to lose. yesterday she won her quarter-final in three sets after losing the first set, then giving up a 5-0 lead in the third, she finally got through in the tiebreaker.

tomorrow she’s playing a no-name in the semi-final. i’ve put $16 on her at about $1.20.

i’m doomed. DOOMED, i tell ye.

on the punt

well, waddaya know it’s rugby league season again. and we all know what that means. yes, cate will now begin to fritter away the odd $1 here and $1 there in a vain attempt to beat the odds.

brisbane broncos clung on for the win last night, but parramatta let me down, so i’m already 15 cents down on the weekend. yes, 15 cents.

hey, i don’t bet much, but it means a lot to me.

today i have $1 each on the canterbury bulldogs, the penrith panthers and the melbourne storm. good luck to us, one and all.

UPDATE: yes, how predictable. bulldogs played like complete twats in the first half, came back to almost snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, but gave the ball to a brain-dead gumby with too much hair. LOSS.

UPDATE 2: penrith and melbourne both won. so that’s $3 spent and $2.90 won. that makes me 25c down on the weekend so far. lol. tomorrow i’m looking to get ahead of the game. i’ve backed the mighty gold coast titans to beat the warriors, the rabbitohs to beat the roosters, and wests to beat manly on monday night. hmm, that might be a bit tricky. ah well.

go the pack

blogfavrei love brett favre. greatest packer ever. EVER. and one of the nfl’s greatest ever as well.

i’ve hated the way his on-off-on-off retirement bullshit has gone on. i didn’t like the way the packers treated him at the end. but i also think favre contributed to that.

good luck to him. he’s a champion, on and off the field, and how can you knock a 39-year-old who’s 3-0 so far this season?

you can’t.

having said all that … GO PACK! yeh, yeh, in minnesota, blah blah blah. GO PACK! yeh, yeh, $2.75 outsiders. GO PACK!

$5 plonked down on the beloved Pack.

*sigh* … rafa … what happened?

has lost 5 clay-court matches since, i dunno, 1964, possibly. but chooses yesterday to lose his 6th. thanks mate.

anyway. i’ve whacked $5 on the melbourne storm in the NRL tonight. hopefully that will get me back on track. or, y’know, not.

UPDATE: storm won. hoorah! nothing worth betting on overnight.

roger federer …

blogfed… won his semi-final easily (rafa nadal won an epic against novak djokovic) and the pot now stands at $7.

i’m putting it on st kilda to win their afl match against essendon late this afternoon. they’re the shortest-priced favourites of the weekend at $1.16, which of course means they’ll crumple like a wet paper bag. this is, after all, st kilda.

UPDATE: the saints won, bless them, and the pot is now $8. the question now is, do i really think rafa nadal is so much better on clay than roger federer that i would drop the lot on him at $1.33? given the bloke hasn’t lost on clay since god was a boy.

*thinking* … and the answer is yes. i am, indeed, an idiot.
