And this one just breaks my heart. If you think gays and lesbians don’t suffer for their sexuality, watch this.
so. Julia Gillard, prime minister of this happy little country, hasn’t married her long-time partner, Tim. her feelings on marriage are clear enough, therefore. she’d rather be criticised by some sections of society for being an unmarried woman living in sin with a bloke, than be seen as conforming to the supposed marital conservatism of our society.
and then there’s this:
Where the push for marriage equality in her country is concerned, she said that she is a “cultural traditionalist” who finds herself “on the conservative side in this question.”
“Declaring there were ‘some important things from our past that need to continue to be part of our present and part of our future,’ Ms Gillard said her view was that the Marriage Act — and marriage being between a man and woman — ‘has a special status,’” reports The Australian.
yes, very special. discriminated against, even.
Ms Gillard is also an atheist, a position i applaud, by the way.
and then there’s this:
“It’s impossible to understand Western literature without having that key of understanding the Bible stories and how Western literature builds on them and reflects them and deconstructs them and brings them back together,” said Gillard.
so there are only two conclusions you can draw from this. either Ms Gillard truly believes what she is saying in which case, best-case scenario, the cognitive dissonance between her beliefs and her actions must be driving her ever so slightly batty.
or … she’s keeping the conservatives happy so they don’t think she’s completely pandering to the Greens.
i know which one my money is on — the one that puts just a little bit of vomit in the back of my throat.
(btw, those quotes come from The Advocate. Nothing like a little bit of international recognition for our PM’s hypocrisy.)
and people wonder why women have body issues. Jesus, i hate hypocrisy like this.
and here’s the article from MamaMia.
